Will the Ford Everest receive a facelift for 2021? – Auto News

With the Ford Ranger getting a facelift in a few days, it makes us wonder if the Everest will follow suit soon. After all, the two are related to each other, and it makes sense for Ford to give it a couple of tweaks. As it turns out, it’s in the pipeline, according to various sources.

Unlike the Ranger, though, Ford doesn’t have a definite launch date for it yet. Information is limited at the moment, but at least we know the American automaker has something prepared for the popular SUV. This bit of news couldn’t come at a better time for the Everest, as most of its rivals recently got significant updates.

So, what can we expect? We could see similar updates from the Ranger, and most of these might likely be cosmetic. If we were to base it on its pick-up counterpart, changes to the Everest might include a new grille, wheel designs, or even bumpers. Additional equipment could be part of the minor model change, along with more variants.

What we’re not anticipating are new engines. That’s because the Everest is fresh from a major powertrain overhaul. Last year, the SUV received the new 2.0-liter EcoBlue turbodiesel engines and ten-speed automatic transmission. The “base” EcoBlue is a single turbo mill with 180 PS and 420 Nm of torque, while the 4×4 model uses a bi-turbo version with 213 PS and 500 Nm of torque. The latter effectively replaces the large 3.2-liter, five-cylinder unit, although it is still available in some markets. That said, the new single-turbo EcoBlue could replace the familiar 2.2-liter as the entry-level engine.

Right now, we don’t know what Ford has in store for the Everest, but there are a few things we’d like to see in the facelifted model. We’d like new programming in the ten-speed automatic, as it tends to hunt gears. If they get to do that, we expect better fuel economy out of it, especially the four-wheel-drive model which only managed less than 8 kilometers per liter in our testing. Perhaps a slightly firmer ride would help given that the current one tends to wallow on certain roads. Also, we’ve been asking Ford to add a telescopic steering wheel to both the Ranger and Everest, so we’d like to see that in the future model.

The facelifted Ford Ranger will debut on November 5, so the updated Everest could likely be out sometime in 2021. As for the exact date, we’ll have to keep our eyes peeled for that. Who knows, it might be out sooner rather than later.
