Experts recommend Cannabis bath bombs to combat fibromyalgia and improve sleep

Cannabis has been proven to have a host of wonderful health benefits. In places where cannabis use is legal, this compound is often used to treat several health issues, mostly bordering on joint and muscle pain, anxiety, depression, and insomnia.

Fibromyalgia is an incurable disorder characterized by widespread muscle pain and tenderness accompanied by chronic fatigue, sleep, memory and mood issues. This condition affects about 10 million people in the United States and an estimated 3-6% of the world population. How does CBD help fibromyalgia?

Cannabidiol, commonly referred to as CBD, is a chemical compound derived from the hemp plant. Unlike THC, it does not produce any psychoactive effects. Studies over the decades have found this compound to possess several amazing benefits that improve overall human health.

One such study conducted in 2013 noted that one of the most popular medical uses for cannabis is for pain relief and that there’s scientific evidence that results in “significant improvement” for a wide variety of pain and muscle aches. While THC may impair sleep quality for a long time, CBD could potentially treat insomnia and improve a person’s sleeping habits. It also helps in the treatment of anxiety and PTSD, and also in improving sleep patterns for patients suffering from chronic pain.

Tips for buying quality CBD oil

Cannabis use became legal in Canada as of October 2018. Hemp products with more than  0.3% or less are regarded as industrial-grade hemp and are not regulated in the U.S. Products with THC levels over that specification, however, are only permitted in states where recreational marijuana is legal and states where medical THC and CBD are legal. 

We highly recommend doing some research before purchasing a CBD product. Consumer Reports advises purchasing CBD oil from within the country, where products are closely regulated and standardized (4).

You must check the certificate of analysis (COA), which lists the CBD and THC content as well as test results for any contaminants. If the COA mentions meeting ISO 17025 standards, all the better! Note that companies selling “hemp oil” rather than “CBD oil” generally contain lower amounts cannabidiol, and won’t be as effective.

DIY CBD Bath Bomb

Bath bombs are nice-smelling, bathing ingredients hard-packed into a solid form that effervesces when wet. They get fuzzy and bubbly all over your bathwater, and no matter what age you are, they are extremely fun to watch!

Ingredients:

  • 100mg CBD from CBD oil*
  • 1 cup baking of soda
  • 1 tablespoon of coconut oil
  • 1/2 cup of corn starch
  • 1/2 cup of citric acid
  • 1 teaspoon of water
  • Optional: 10-20 drops of lavender essential oil or another scent of your choice. Rose and lemon oil are other wonderful choices. 
  • Optional: natural food coloring

*Note: Depending on the strength of the CBD oil you have the volume (drops or ml) of oil needed for this recipe will vary. For instance, an oil containing 1mg CBD per drop will require 100 drops. Having trouble calculating? Try this CBD oil calculator

You could vary the measurement of ingredients depending on the number of bath bombs you want to make. This one will only be enough to make one bath bomb.

Procedure

  1. Pour the baking soda, citric acid, Epsom salt, and corn starch into a large bowl and whisk thoroughly.
  2. Mix the CBD oil, coconut oil, water, essential oils, and food coloring in a separate bowl.
  3. Slowly add the liquids to the dry ingredients, stirring constantly.
  4. Once blended, mold the mixture with your bath bomb mold (pack tightly) and let dry for at least 24 hours.

Enjoy a warm, relaxing bath to help soothe your body after an especially painful or tiring day.
